Frequently asked questions
Kinopy is a daily link puzzle shaped like a plant. These answers cover how it works, what you can play today, and what it keeps.
Is Kinopy free?
Yes. You can play today's daily in every mode as a guest, with no account. Signing in with Google is optional. Signing in opens the Calendar, past dailies and Endless.
Who makes Kinopy?
Tetsuhiro Development, a one-person studio in Singapore, makes Kinopy. Kinopy is a personal take on Pyralinks by TMBoyz LLC. Kinopy has five modes, and each puzzle grows as a plant with two boards.
Where does the name Kinopy come from?
The name comes from canopy, the roof of leaves at the top of a forest. The name also holds the word kin, for words that grow from one seed.
What is a companion plant?
Companion plants grow side by side. In Kompanion, two words grow side by side and make a phrase or compound word, such as POINT BLANK.
What is a catkin?
A catkin is a soft tassel of tiny flowers. In catKin, a pair of fragments makes one word. PAN and TRY make PANTRY.
What is a calyx?
The calyx is the ring of green sepals under a flower. In Kalyx, each number sits on a cup of three tiles: two numbers and the operator between them.
What is a climber?
A climber grows up a support. In Klimber, each word changes one letter from the word before it. On the Sapling, a step can also add or take away a letter.
What is a scion?
A scion is a cut shoot grafted onto another plant. In sKion, each word starts with the last three or more letters of the word before it.
What are the Rootlet and the Sapling?
Each puzzle has two boards that share one seed. The seed sits on the soil line. The Rootlet grows down from it as roots. The Sapling grows up from it.
Why does the Sapling unlock after the Rootlet?
The Rootlet ends with the seed in plain view. The Sapling starts from the same seed. It also gives you one guess fewer.
The Sapling unlocks when the Rootlet ends, after a win or a loss. A loss on the Rootlet never keeps you from the Sapling.
What is the hint?
The hint is a line of words in the sky. It points at the seed on the soil line. The hint shows from the start and stays when the Rootlet ends.
How do lifelines work?
Kinopy has three lifelines. Graft joins a pair in the right order. Stake pins one tile in its correct spot. Transplant does both.
Each date gives one of each, shared across its ten boards. Endless gives one Graft per plant. A lifeline spends no guess and never submits the board.
When does a new daily start?
A new daily grows at midnight in your own time zone. Each mode has its own daily.
Can I play past days?
Yes, when you sign in. The Calendar opens the dailies that you missed, back to 1 January 2026. Past dailies do not change your streak.
How do streaks count?
A streak counts the days in a row that you win the Rootlet in a mode. Each mode keeps its own streak. Only today's daily counts.
What is Endless?
Endless grows a puzzle from a random seed. It has a Rootlet, a Sapling and a hint for its seed. You need an account to play it.
The Fog switch hides far tiles. A hidden tile shows again when Submit turns a branch near it green. Endless puzzles do not count toward your stats.
Do I need an account?
No. A guest plays today's daily in every mode, with both the Rootlet and the Sapling. The Calendar, past dailies and Endless need an account.
Why should I sign in?
An account keeps your streaks and results safe and brings them to every device.
What does Kinopy save to my account?
Kinopy saves your results, stats, streaks, daily boards in progress, daily lifelines and settings. The Look setting, the Help tune puzzles switch and the How to play note stay on each device.
Does my progress sync?
Yes, when you sign in. A guest keeps progress in one browser on one device. Clearing site data erases it.
How do I sign out?
Open Account in the menu and tap Sign out. Kinopy first saves your last changes. This device then starts again as a guest.
How do I delete my data?
Open Account in the menu, tap Delete account and type DELETE. Kinopy deletes the account and all its saved progress. You cannot undo it.
The pairs you sent with Help tune puzzles stay, because they hold no link to your account. Read the privacy page for what Kinopy keeps.
What does Help tune puzzles send?
The switch in Settings sends the pairs you try in each daily, right or wrong. A random code from this device groups them. They hold no name, account, device details or location.
You can turn the switch off. Your own choice always wins. If you make no choice, a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal from your browser keeps it off.
Why does my tree look different from my friend's?
Each device keeps one random seed, so each player grows a tree of their own. The seed holds no personal data.
When you sign in, the seed comes from your account, so every device shows the same tree. Win both boards of a puzzle and your tree gains a small mark. A friend with a different result gets a different mark.
What happened to latKis?
latKis is now Kinopy. Your results, stats, streaks and settings came with you.
